HistLing Discussion Group
HistLing group meetings occur every other week during the fall and
winter terms and are devoted to discussions of language change. Group
members include interested faculty, graduate students, and
undergraduates from a wide variety of UM departments - Linguistics,
Anthropology, Asian Languages and Cultures, Classics, Germanic
Languages, Near Eastern Studies, Romance Languages, Slavic Languages
- and from two nearby universities, Eastern Michigan (Ypsilanti) and
Wayne State (Detroit), and one Canadian university (Concordia). Some
meetings feature faculty or student presentations; other meetings have
an announced topic for discussion and a volunteer moderator, but no
formal presentation.
See the discussion groups page for
the current schedule. Anyone with an interest in language change is welcome to attend our
meetings, contact Sally Thomason (thomason@umich.edu) for more
information and/or to have your name put on our email list.
